Manchester United v Chelsea is the big feature match of the Premier League weekend and the action comes from Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Not only is it is a clash between two of the top sides in the country, but it is a game of high importance for both of them in terms of their respective ambitions. Chelsea of course are tracking towards the league title and they will want to at least avoid defeat in this one.
As for Manchester United they are just on the outskirts of the top four and so they still have a lot to play for. But they are going to have overcome some poor head to head form against the Blues, because the Red Devils have gone winless in their last eight Premier League games against the Blues (D4 L4). That is actually their longest ever winless streak against a single opponent in the history of the competition.
The Red Devils have only managed to score just the three goals in their last eight games against Chelsea in all competitions now and they have already suffered two defeats against them this season. Chelsea took a big 4-0 win at Stamford Bridge against Manchester United earlier in the season and then followed that up with a 1-0 win against them in the FA Cup. That was also at Stamford Bridge and naturally this is going to be a tougher game for the Blues.
The Red Devils have been a resilient mood in the league though since that loss at Stamford Bridge because they have put together a 21 match unbeaten streak (W11 D1) and that is the joint 10th longest unbeaten run in the history of the competition. They will need a big game from Zlatan Ibrahimovic to threaten the Chelsea back line and the Blues have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last nine league outings. But they are the Champions-elect and as they showed in a recent win over Man City, they have what it takes to win the big games.
